LASER WELDING TECHNOLOGY AND ADVANTAGE OF DIAMOND CORE DRILL BIT

Laser welding is now a competitive technology for the development of diamond tools. Taking the features such as higher precision, different specification requirements and poor weld – ability into account, the automated laser welding system, designed to manufacture drilling – bits, was developed. It consists of laser, laser beam propagation system, welding machine and control system. The results indicate that laser welding system possesses better laser beam quality, steady and reliable performance. It is capable of welding diamond core drill bit with diameter of φ20 ~ φ350 mm, less than 500 mm in length. The diamond core drill bit could be manufactured with higher welding precision, better weld seam quality, so as to meet the requirements of customers.

Comparing with the traditional welding technology, laser welding of the diamond core drill bit has much merit that easy to realize automatic control and the production efficiency is high. It is the important direction of originality innovation on the diamond tool. Aim at the characteristics that more specification, higher accuracy and bad welding of diamond core drill bit, the laser welding technology was designed by “uniform design”. The technological parameter of experiment was presented by uniform design software and abundant experience. The study has significance of guiding and reference to the industrial production of diamond core drill bit.
